Size Matters (FLAKE size that is...)
Flake size can have a big impact on the appearance of your flooring project. Torginol Flake is available in 6 unique size profiles: 1” Original, ½”, ¼”, 1/8”, 1/16”, and 1/32”. ¼” is the most popular size option, but don’t let that steer you away from the other sizes. Each size creates a unique look to complement your space and design choices.
Smaller sizes like 1/32”, 1/16”, and 1/8” sizes create a more natural, aggregate-like look, while larger sizes such as ¼”, ½”, or 1” create more bold, graphic patterns.
Smaller sizes are often better if you are looking to achieve a more subtle finish. The smaller sizing creates more consistent particle sizes and shapes—the individual colors of the blend are less visible and create a more even tone overall. Neutral colored blends including gray or brown yield a more rock-like appearance. See how sizing affects the blend FB-716 Creekbed below:
1/8" | 1/16" | 1/32" |
One thing to keep in mind while using smaller sized Flake is that it will require more product for complete and even coverage. However, for those looking for a more natural and subtle design—smaller sized Flakes are a great option.
The garage pictured below was done using a blend of FB-715 Nightfall and F9311 Dolerite in 1/8”.
Larger FLAKE sizes are great for environments where you may be looking to make a statement with the floor--blends with pops of color are best shown in larger sizes. There is more variety in size and shape of larger sized flakes as the flakes will naturally break down into smaller pieces.
Statement blends--like those featured in our Garage and Insignia collections--with bright colors look great in larger sizes because you get to see all of the colors of a blend individually! Check out FB-255 Growl from our Insignia collection below in our larger FLAKE sizes:
1" Original | 1/2" | 1/4" |
For the best of both worlds—try one of our hybrid-sized blends from our Terrazzo or Hybrid Stone collections! These blends are composed of 2-3 flake sizes including ¼”, 1/8”, and/or 1/16”. The combination of multiple sizes creates a true aggregate appearance similar to polished concrete or terrazzo.
Choosing FLAKE size is just as important as choosing the colors and can transform the final appearance of a floor. Don’t limit yourself to the standard ¼”!
If you are unsure about what size would suit your project—order a sample! We always recommend ordering a sample of any new blend before you place an order. It is the best way to ensure you are happy with your selection.
